In April 2008, when Ka Makana was launched, many of Hawaii’s resort communities were looking for lifeboats. But instead of trying to appeal to vacation homebuyers, Ka Makana (the first neighborhood of the Hoakalei community) was designed for local families seeking a primary residence. We created a brand for this “year-round family resort” that speaks directly to locals, both civilian and military. It struck a chord in the marketplace, creating not just demand but a backlog of sales. In 2013, Hoakelei will introduce two new villages as the new waterfront lagoon and promenade retail area begin to emerge.
