As an international packaging company with a large timber-farming operation, WestRock (formerly MWV) knows the importance of planning ahead. Looking to the future, WestRock saw two emerging trends. The growth of metro Charleston up the I-26 corridor. And the movement toward gigabit internet as the next essential technology for both commerce and home life. Putting these trends together, WestRock began planning Nexton — an evolutionary mixed-use community on 4,500 acres of WestRock timberland along I-26 east of downtown Summerville. With the launch of its first commercial district in 2013 and its inaugural residential village, Brighton Park, in early 2015, Nexton became the first gigabit community in South Carolina. And yet, it is WestRock’s approach to design that is truly setting Nexton apart. Nexton’s design sensibility is that of a carefully orchestrated mashup and a vibrant new extension of Summerville. Lowcountry charm and high technology. The comfort of home and the energy of town. And we’ve created a brand for Nexton that reflects the multi-faceted creativity of the place.
